This is a recipe I've made with my mum for as long as I can remember. Since Christmas is all about traditions I thought I'd show you. I took this recipe from the BBC website but we changed it a little as we went.
You Will Need:
-350g of plain flour
-1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
-1/2 tsp salt
-2 tsp ground ginger
- 100g butter
-1 free range egg
- 4 tbsp golden syrup
- fruit flavoured boiled sweets
- Preheat the oven to 180C
- For biscuits, mix the flour, bicarbonate of soda, salt and ginger.
- Rub in the butter to make the mixture look like breadcrumbs, add the sugar
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg with the golden syrup, then add to the flour mixture and knead til you make a dough.
- Crush the sweets with a rolling pin
- Roll the dough to around half a cm thickness, and cut out your Christmas shapes. Then put them on a lined baking tray.
- Cut out the shapes you want in the centre of each biscuit and fill in the hole you make with the crushed sweets.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
- Remove the biscuits from the oven and leave to cool so the melted sweets can set.
