Review: John Freida Frizz-Ease Hair Serum:

11.10.13

I've been meaning to write this post for a while now, but I thought I'd wait until I got to the very end of the bottle so that I could give a fair and objective view looking back on the product as a whole as opposed to my first impressions on the product (I've actually done a first impressions post on a different hair serum if any of you are interested it can be found here).
This is the original formula serum there are three different formula's in the Frizz-Ease Serum range. This did actually come with a lid but that was lost a long time ago now unfortunately but it doesn't really affect the product and the pump is firm enough that it's fine with out the lid it wont be pressed down accidentally without a considerable amount of force.
Anyway, onto the actual product itself, I bought this to help my hair in terms of frizz because if you have naturally curly hair and you don't want to be using heat on it every time you're planning on leaving the house then frizz is a big problem. I use it on damp towel-dried hair applying 1 or 2 pumps from my palms and combing the product through my hair from the mid length downwards, with a little extra focus on the ends which lately have been needing a little extra love as I'm well due for a haircut.
I can't say that I noticed a major difference from the first few uses, this is more of a product that you grow to love and you begin to notice the difference with consistent use. It's a very thick and greasy formula with that strong chemical smell which if you own John Frieda's 3 Day Straight you will be more than familiar with. Now all of these sound like negative's but as long as you use the recommended amount for your hair length and don't apply the product directly to your roots, than the smell will disappear and it wont leave your hair feeling heavy, greasy or weighed down.
Now that I'm nearing the end of the bottle, I have to say I really will be sad to say goodbye to this little bottle of serum. It really does make a noticeable difference to my curls, and it's more than evident by the lack of shine and amount of frizz if I ever forget to use it. So overall, I would highly recommend this serum if you're on the look out for a new one, particularly if you have frizzy hair.
That's all for this post, I'll see you all next time and I hope you all enjoyed giving this a read.

The Versatile Blogger Award:

9.10.13

Half way through college today I got a twitter notification from the lovely Becky Lou, check out her blog here, telling me that she had nominated me for an this award. I want to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you, as I massively agree with what she said in her post about it being hard and taking a lot of time for new bloggers to get noticed and build up a following. As I've only been writing this blog for a few months this is such a huge honour to be nominated for any award at all.

How to: Remove Stubborn Mascara:

8.10.13

Now, we can't all afford to regularly be spending lot's of money on high end makeup removers, and if I'm honest all of the "budget" or "low end" eye makeup removers that I've tried out over the years just don't cut it for me. So here's a little home remedy, if you will, for getting rid of that stubborn mascara that just won't leave you alone!

Now this may seem strange but all you're going to need is a little tin of Vaseline, and lets be honest girls, we've all got one of those rolling around in the back of a drawer or the bottom of a makeup bag somewhere. Now, Vaseline just doesn't work as a lip balm for me at all, but for this it works a treat.

It's super simple, all you have to do is completely cover your top and bottom lashes in a nice thick layer of Vaseline, I like to use the Rosy Lips one because the oils it contains work wonders for my lashes too. After rubbing it in a little, I'll leave it to sink in a little (not long just a few minutes or so) and then rub it off either with my hands or a tissue it doesn't really matter which and all of the mascara stuck right to my lashes even the parts right in the roots come gliding off with the slippy oily texture of the product.

Et Voila! Mascara free lashes! Now I'm no scientist and I don't claim to be, but roughly this works as Vaseline contains a lot of oil, and mascara -particularly those stubborn or waterproof formula's- often contain wax. So, the oils in Vaseline when rubbed into the lashes help to breakdown the mascara making it nice and easy to slide off your lashes. Sometimes if I've really been using a lot of mascara it will take me more than one coat and wipe to get all the mascara off, but nevertheless, it's a trick that's never failed me.

It doesn't necessarily have to Vaseline, a friend of mine just uses olive oil, basically any old oil based or oily product will do. Just please be careful not to get anything in your eyes! Haha.

I hope you didn't mind the sight of my naked face in these pictures, haha thankyou for reading and I'll see you all next time!

Pamper Evening Routine:

4.10.13

Just to warn you all, this post is going to be a long post so you may want to grab yourself a cup of tea or hot chocolate and incorporate giving this a read into a pamper evening of your own.

Every now and again we all just need to take a night out completely to ourselves to do nothing but relax and give ourselves a bit of a treat. Personally, I find myself doing this every week or so and over the past few months I've found myself developing a bit of a routine that I stick to during a "pamper evening". I think they're amazing and very good for you both mentally and in terms of skincare. No matter how much you've got on your plate or going on (especially if you're going through your A levels like I am) everyone needs a night off to just clear their head, relax and have a fresh start. I never plan to have a pamper evening in advance but usually they start off with me getting home from college, dropping my bag on the floor and deciding its high time I gave myself a break.

Once this is decided the first thing I do is run myself a very bubbly warm bath with  lovely smelling bubbles, once in the bath the very first thing I do is get a fairly abrasive flannel and my usual face wash (Neutrogena Visibly Clear Pink Grapefruit Daily Scrub) to make sure that I've got all of my make up and dead skin cells right off. This is a really important step to take in your skin care routine whether having a pamper evening or not, as the steam that comes from a bath or shower will open up your pores meaning that make up and dirt will sink into your skin, making spots and bad skin in general much more of a problem.

After all my make up is off I'll end up lying there in the bubbles for what feels like ten minutes but usually turns out to be more like half an hour before snapping myself out of it and washing my hair with whatever shampoo I'm using at the moment. As soon as all of the shampoo is washed out I'll absolutely cover my hair in conditioner, which I'll usually let sink in for a good ten minutes or so while, I wash and scrub my body - usually very harshly to both make sure I've removed all the dead skin cells on my skin and if the reason I'm treating myself is because of a few hard days I get that feeling of wanting to try and scrub the day off me and feel much better after a nice scrub, haha. Then I wash out the conditioner, slip on a hair mask, which lately has been Aussie's 3 Minute Miracle Luscious Long hair mask- and leave that in my hair for hours and hours even after I get out of the bath.

When out of the bath I usually carry on the pamper evening by popping on a onesie or my PJ's, setting up my oil burner with a collection of smells that I've collected from Little Hotties, I love mixing up the smells I've collected to create different scents. While the little wax shapes are melting away I'll always put lots and lots of moisturiser on and actually take the time to use different moisturisers for
different parts of my body, as opposed to just a face moisturiser and a body one for my face. The first moisturiser I'll use will be my face one which for night time is Vaseline Essential Moisture Pure Oat Extract, as it's really nice and thick and you can tell it's doing a world of good for your skin when you're massaging it into your skin and down your neck. Next comes body moisturiser which for the past year or so has been The Body Shop Coconut Body Butter I must have been through at least three of the largest sized tubs of it it's amazing smelling, constancy and is amazing for your skin, I rub a nice thick layer of that in all over my body, because let's face it when it's a pamper evening you can't go by halves can you? Last but not least for moisturiser comes the Heel Genius from Soap & Glory my feet, I won't go into to too much detail about this as I've featured it on this post.

By this point I'll usually have a face mask on too, and have some Vaseline rubbed into my eyelashes and eyebrows to keep them in nice smooth condition. After I've scrubbed off  the face mask I'll pop some Sudocrem onto my face in any red spots or blemishes on the skin, which if you have no idea why I do this then read about it here. To top everything off I'll do a lip scrub and cover myself in lip balm too. Now usually the smell of the oil burner has started to get to me and relax me so the last thing I'll do on a pamper evening is paint my nails in front of either some Youtube videos or some dodgy telly like Keeping Up With The Kardashians which no girl can help but love.

The very last thing I'll do is shuffle myself  up to the bathroom, to wash out the leave in conditioner out of my hair pop some serum in and shuffle off to bed for a very early night. Well that's all for a pamper evening of mine, I hope you all enjoyed reading it, and didn't get bored reading it.

MaxFactor - Facefinity Compact Foundation in 03 Natural:
This is way too dark for me to use as a powder foundation but it's amazing as a contour, it's really light in weight and coverage meaning that it makes a really nice natural contour that i can build up. I know you're not supposed to use bronzer or powder foundations as a contour powder but some you can get away with it just takes a little experimenting with. The packaging is really nice too, it comes with a nice big mirror so when i put it in my everyday makeup bag I don't have to worry about having a mirror with me. Overall, it's a lovely product that I've been using every time I've worn makeup.

The Body Shop - Seaweed Mattifying Day Cream - For Combination to Oily Skin:
Around 3 or 4 months ago my skin started to get really oily, I've always had temperamental skin it changes skin type more than I change my clothes. So on a shopping trip to London I picked this up, and I have to say it worked absolute wonders for my skin. As I'm sure you know even with oily skin you have to make sure you keep it moisturised, which this did, it also helped clear u p and deal with the oil too and made my skin feel so much better almost straight away, I use it everyday and I'm thinking about picking up the night cream to match. I've recommended this to friends with similar skin types to me and would 100% recommend this to any of you with oily or combination skin.

The Body Shop - Lip Butter in Sweet Lemon:
This was another London purchase as on the coach travelling there the aircon dried my lips out massively so I had to pick some up straight away. I have to admit I only bought this because I fell in love with the scent of this, it tastes and smells like lemon sweets. I wasn't really expecting it to do any good but it really is such a nice lip balm, it's nothing compared to my Carmex which I lover like no other lip product but it does the job well. It's very greasy, oily and really lives up  to the name butter. It literally feels like you're rubbing butter into you're lips, which is not something I enjoyed at all at first but it is something you get used to and it now isn't a problem.

Soap & Glory - Heel Genius:
I've been a huge fan of both this product and the brand as a whole. I get really dry heels every now and again they can be totally fine for months on end and then out of no where  they'll get really dry. So I rub this in every night (or at least as often as I remember to) and it really helps smooth out dry patches and leaves my skin new and soft. There really isn't much more to say about it really it looks and smells amazing - but then it is Soap and Glory so it's expected!

Revlon - Top Speed Fast Dry Nail Enamel in 570 Vintage:
This is a beautiful colour, it looks pretty much exactly as it does in the bottle a nice subtle plum toned pink that's perfect for Autumn. It actually does dry in top speed too! Basically it's a lovely colour, fast drying and goes on evenly and smoothly. The only negative I have for it is that it doesn't last very long on my nails at all, it chips within days, although it doesn't bother me too much as it never takes long to touch up.

Batiste - Dry Shampoo in Dark & Deep Brown:
I've been trying to grow my hair for the past few months, which means I've been leaving huge gaps between washes to keep it in as good a condition as possible and help make it nice and strong. But sometimes even I can't deny that it looks like it needs a good wash so in the morning I'll give it a good spray and it completely removes the look of grease meaning I can get away with a day or two more without washing it. I know it sounds gross but it really does work and keep my hair strong. The fact this product has colour to it also means that I don't ave to spend ages ruffling my hair until the gray has gone.

So, that's it those are all the products I've been using lots and loving for this past month I hope you enjoyed it and I'll see you all next time.
