Dorothy (Wizard of Oz) Inspired FOTD:

28.9.13

If you follow me on instagram then you'll already know that today I styled my hair with two French plaits to keep its curly craziness out of the way. My Nana told me this morning that it made me look like Dorothy, which got me thinking about her makeup. And, well, this happened...

Face:

  • Rimmel Match Perfection in 010 Light Porcelain
  • MaxFactor Whipped Crème in 50 Natural (used as a contour in the cheekbones)
  • MUA blusher in Shade 1
Eyes:
  • MUA Intense Colour Eyeliner in Rich Brown (used as an eyebrow pencil)
  • 17 Ultimate Definition Lash and Brow Mascara in Clear (to set them in place)
  • Naked (all over the lid) and Buck (through the crease) from the Naked Pallet
  • Technic Kohl Pencil in Black
  • Clarins Wonder Perfect Mascara (and lots of it!)
Lips:
  • The Body Shop Born Lippy Strawberry Lipbalm
  • Collection Volume Sensation Lipstick in 8 Cherry Pop
I think this could also be used as a wearable red lip look for those of you who are wanting to branch out into more vibrant makeup. I'll probably be recreating this look come Christmas time too.

Red: Collection Volume Sensation Lipstick in Cherry Pop (8). This lipstick is really highly pigmented, meaning a little goes a long way. It's also super glossy, making it moisturising as opposed to a matte, drying lipstick. It's a real pillarbox red too, so not for those of you who like your nudes and peaches.

Orange: Rimmel London I <3 Lasting Finish in Pop (265). This isn't a bright or neon orange it's more of an orange with a red undertone, which  for me means that it's the perfect transition colour from Summer into Autumn. It really lives up to it's name to because it lasts on my nails from week to week.

Yellow: Carmex Classic. A few months ago my lips got really sore, chapped and painful and nothing I had at home was working, so my mum and I went to Boots to see what we could find. I picked up the Carmex because I'd heard wonderful things about it healing up people's lips, and I have to say it lived up to my expectations and had my lips back to normal within days. It does sting a little but it doesn't bother me too much because I know it means that the lipbalm is working it's magic.

Green: The Body Shop Tea Tree Face Mask. This mask is perfect for blemished, oily or normal skin. I love treating myself with it every now and again, it  makes my skin super soft and clean. I'm not prone to breakouts but it has brought down any spots that I've had when they pop up.

Blue: Anna Sui perfume in Secret Wish. This is an absolutely beautiful grapefruity citrus scent, that i love today as much as I did when I wore it years a go, maybe I'll change my mind when I'm older but right now I'm pretty sure I'll love it for years to come. It's got lovely packing too and to top it all off it lasts all day too.

Indigo: The Body Shop Born Lippy Lipbalm in PassionBerry. This balm smells of fruity loveliness and is either clear when one thin layer is applied or has a very subtle purple tinge to it when a few layers have been built up. Either way I wouldn't recommend buying it for the colour. Compared to Carmex, I'd say that Carmex is more of a healing balm for lips that are already sore, whereas this balm is more of a maintenance balm for lips that are already smooth.

Violet: 17 Solo Eyeshadow in Damnson. This eyeshadow is a purple so it brings out the green flecks in my eyes well. It can either be lightly put on to provide a subtle wash of colour or really packed on for an intense block of colour, it has a pinky undertone to it though, so be wary that it may lead to sore looking eyes if not used carefully.

I know Pink isn't in the rainbow but I thought I'd be a little cheeky and add pink in like I've seen other bloggers and Youtubers do.

So Pink: VO5 Heat Protect Styling Spray. I try not to use heat on my hair very often because it's naturally curly and I'm trying to keep it  in good condition while it grows. But, when I do use heat, I absolutely cover it in this as it protects up to 230 degrees. It creates a protective layer over my hair, making me feel as though my hair is being protected, it also seals in shine.

Thanks for reading everyone.
See you soon!

My Amazing Anniversary Presents:

21.9.13

If you read my 25 Facts About Me post (which can be found here) then you'll already know that on the 20th of September my boyfriend and I celebrated our first anniversary together and it's safe to say I was spoilt rotten. I wanted to show you all of the lovely things he got for me (which if you follow me on instagram you'll already have seen) I thought you might want a quick run through of our day together.

As it was a Friday I was at college until about three in the afternoon but as I walked out of college there he was waiting for me. We walked together to his Dad's house where I found the beautiful basket full of gorgeous presents waiting for me on the living room table, whilst the dining room table was all set out for my favourite dinner ever, fajitas. After dinner he put on Les Mis for me which was one of my presents (which considering he's a stereotypical boy with a love for rugby not musical's was so sweet) and to tell you the truth I fell asleep cuddled up under the duvet on the sofa. When the film had finished we set up Grand Theft Auto V - which was one of my presents to him- and played it until bed. Well I say we played it was more he played and I shouted at the screen next to him, haha.

Anyway, on to the presents themselves, the first present was this absolutely gorgeous necklace which even though it was only yesterday I got it I already feel naked without!
It's from a brand called elements, and is a beautiful little silver hummingbird with a little dangling heart coming off his nose.

The second thing I pulled out the basket was an Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in the colour Native, which I have to say as soon as I put on I fell in love with and will be getting an awful lot of use out of!

I'm thinking of giving it a post of it's own and reviewing it, what do you think?

After this came the Lush Mint Julips Lip scrub, I opened it straight away to try out. This one had a special meaning because I've been wanting to get myself a new lip scrub for absolutely ages, which Myles knows.
It tastes and smells exactly like the mint goo that comes in After Eight mints, which I love. It does an amazing job of softening and smoothing up my lips too.

The scarf is lovely. I can tell already I'm going to be wearing it non stop, not only is it a beautiful print but its also light but not floaty and just the right length for my tiny body, resting just at my hips when wrapped around my neck once, meaning I'll be able to get use out of it all year round. The print is lots of poppies among other flowers with bright watercolour butterflies all over it.

Myles also got me Les Miserables 25th Anniversary Live Concert edition on DVD, which he has told me is all thanks to my friend Olivia as it was her idea. Since I've had Les Mis songs stuck in my head ever since I borrowed the film months ago, I agree with her choice, haha.

Next came the Reese's Cups which I love, love, love and are being eaten as I type so certainly won't last very long.

And last but not least was the beautiful straw basket it all came in. I've kept the lovely box he gave me my Christmas presents in, which is now the home of my nail varnish collection, so he knew I'd find a use for it.

I want to take this opportunity to say a HUGE thankyou to Myles not only for the amazing presents and a lovely two days with him but also for allowing himself to be dragged round the shops with a group of my friends who helped him pick the presents out. (Also thankyou to my amazing friends for helping him too.) I'm feeling very spoilt indeed and don't feel like I deserve such beautiful things or such an amazing boyfriend.

Plastic Fantastic: Barbie Inspired Makeup:

19.9.13

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who sits and plays with their makeup when they're bored. In fact it's a favourite pastime amongst my friends. Well last time I did this happened (completely on it's own too).......

I loved it so much that I had to take some pictures and plan out this post.

So first things first, for a Barbie inspired look you're going to need an absolutely flawless base. I went with Rimmel's  Match Perfection as it has a good buildable coverage and evens out redness well. I have a small scar on the top of my nose, which of course a Barbie doll wouldn't have so I covered this with my Miss Sporty Coverstick which is super thick and extremely high coverage, just what's needed for this kind of look. All I added to the cheeks was a baby pink blush on a big fluffy brush, focussing on the apples. I already have quite prominent cheekbones so I didn't feel the need to contour.

Next up came the eyebrows, I used my new MUA Intense Colour eyeliner in Rich Brown, as it was new it had a nice fine point which I used to create a thick strong brow, making my features sharper and harsher which is what springs to mind when thinking of dolls. As for the eyes themselves, I started off by  packing on a super light blue up to my crease stopping before I reached it. Then I slowly began to add more and more of a purple with a pinky undertone through the crease and repeating these two steps until I was happy with the colour intensity and gradient. Finally for the eyes make sure you put on lots and lots of mascara or some falsies if you have them.
Last but not least the lips, the lipstick I used (Barry M's Lip Paint in Marshmallow) was extremely drying and matte so I covered my lips with a thick layer of lip balm before anything else, resulting in a smooth glossy finish and keeping them protected.

So there you go the finished look, it's random and hardly wearable unless you're off to a fancy dress party but I love it!

NOTD: Shimmery Pink

12.9.13

I'm absolutely awful at painting my nails in one block colour let alone attempting any fancy designs or nail arts. I loose patience and certaintly don't have a steady hand, usually I end up with more nail varnish all over my hand than on the nail itself. But I do like using some simple little tricks to give my nails a little extra something. This is one of my favourites its super quick super easy and needs little to no skills.
First things first apply a base coat to keep your nails strong and prevent staining. This one is Collection 2in1 Strengthener & Hardener, which is amazing in my opinion.
Next apply a super bright colour of you choice, usually I go for a shocking pink. The one used here is Rimmel I ♥ Lasting Finish in 270 Hot Shot!
And last but not least when the colour has dried go over the top with an opaque shimmery colour, sadly all the writing has worn off the one I used but any nail varnish will do.
And that's it, super simple I hope you enjoyed it and I hope you're tempted to have a go yourselves. See you next time.
